e-zines
I just nearly went for the jugular with a friend who used the word "e-zine" to describe a print zine I'd mailed him. Turns out he was using the "e" to refer to "environmental" or "ecology." Now I feel sheepish, but I assume some of y'all are with me on "e-zine" bringing out your killer instinct?

Oh my god, I totally feel you on this one. When I first moved to Florida, I was reading "From A to Zine" at a coffeehouse. This guy tried to pick me up by starting a conversation about e-zines. I quickly corrected him, and needless to say, we never went on a date.

i think that e-zine = incorrect term for an online journal, blog, or a website. maybe i am not hip enough, but i would never call anything online "zine." For me, that is like dj-ing a club with a laptop (lazy). take those turntables back out. get some paper. am i wrong?

He might want to reconsider using "e-zine" when describing ecozines, as you know already, e-zine has been established for many years (unfortunately). I think "eco-zine" is a better choice.

[nods] Yes, i agree that "eco-zine" is a much better terminology choice.

And "e-zine" brings out my killer instinct, too. I'm also sensitive to people calling magazines "zines," tho', to be fair, people who do that are usually completely unaware of what a zine is.

Thanks everyone. I know I'm not alone in my reaction, and I can also suggest to the friend that he use the term eco-zine.

And yeah, I don't think e-zine is really a useful term for anything. It seems to me that what actually were "e-zines" quickly made smarter use of their digital environment and became blogs.

Finally--Radym, did you pick up any real zinesters while reading that book?

I am hoping that the term "e-zine" dies and is replaced by "Blog"...I hope. E-zines are not zine. that doesn't make them inherently bad, it just makes them mis categorized...and annoying to real zinesters.
